Days 45 & 46 -- Sunday & Monday, June 14 & 15

Sunday morning, I dropped my dad off at O'Hare and then took a room at a suburban Motel 6. I'd gotten a little behind in my writing and so I decided to hole up here for a day or two to do a little catching up. I also needed to do some additional research before I felt prepared to start the Route 66 leg of my journey. I haven't explained this to you before, but I do homework on each state the night before I cross its border. I have a computer file on each of the 48 contiguous states that I've compiled over the last year or so and, in addition, I have a number of books that I consult before entering a new state. This gives me a list of attractions to choose from as I make my way through the state.

As I prepare to travel 66, I've got even more work ahead of me. I'm adding two or three travel books to my daily stack that are devoted solely to travel along the Mother Road. I've also received a few newspaper articles from thoughtful readers concerning the 66th anniversary of the road so I've got my work cut out for me. The hard work will pay off, though. As regular readers of BRETTnews know by now, this leg of the journey is especially important to me and I don't want to miss a thing.

Somehow, though, my muse didn't pay me a visit on Sunday. Oh, I got a little writing done but not much. I decided, then, to stay Monday as well and hit the road on Tuesday.
