Day 44 -- Saturday, June 13

Today's contest is a night game so we decided to head into town and take in the aquarium. We exited the train where instructed and asked for further directions from a passerby (what a couple of rubes we are!). He told us we shouldn't try to walk it; it had to be at least four miles to the aquarium. In reality, it turned out to be a mile, if that. I've been somewhat surprised at the directions and advice I've received along the way during my travels. People in small towns often know nothing of the next town, even if it's only a few miles away. How could they be so unfamiliar with a neighboring burg? Then too, folks often warn that some particular destination is too far away to walk and, often as not, it's not so far at all. I guess New Yorkers just do more walking than most other folks.

We never made it to the aquarium; we opted to take a brief sightseeing cruise around Monroe Harbor and the surrounding areas of Lake Michigan and when we returned, we found the aquarium was sold out for the day. No problem, we strolled around a bit, found a little pub for a sandwich and a Leinenkugel and headed back to the motel to rest a bit.

Then it was back into town for the evening's battle between the Cubs and the Expos. It was another close, well-played contest, won once again by the Cubbies, 4-3, so Dad was treated to a sweep. We fought our way through the crowd back to the El and called it a night.
